HESS | Craft Beer
640 Pittsford Victor Rd, Pittsford, New York
Yes, this is the Hess of gas station fame, but upon entering, you will immediately notice it is much more. The Bushnell’s Basin market and fill station is locally owned and home to one of the best craft beer selections in town. They have racks of delicious ales and lagers along with a spacious walk-in cooler that expands their micro brew options. To give it further credibility, this is one of the only places that we’ve seen with Dogfish 120 Minute IPA for sale.

Weekday Deal: On Fridays between 5 – 7 pm they have free beer tasting events.

Sheridan’s Pub | Chicken Wings
1551 Mt Hope Ave, Rochester, NY 14620
Located nearby the U of R, this cozy bar plays home to some of the best Irish food in Western New York. Their shepard’s pie and classic Irish breakfast will transport you to the Emerald Isle. But the surprise here is the chicken wings – they are perfectly crisp and coated with a tasty, buttery hot sauce sauce. Most people think Jeremiah’s for the best wings in Rochester, but keep this place in mind as a top spot for chicken wings. Also if you like live Irish music, every Sunday afternoon they have jam sessions.

Weekday Deal: Happy hour everyday from 4-7 pm with $2.75 Blue Lights and $1 off well drinks.

chesire46Cheshire | Classic Cocktails
647 South Ave, Rochester, NY 14620
The Cheshire is one of the hardest bars to find in Rochester – it literately has no sign and is secretly located upstairs of the Solera Wine Bar. Just head to the second floor to find a throwback prohibition style tavern that serves up tasty drinks from another era. The cocktails of choice are the Moscow Mule and the Dark & Stormy. If you are hungry, they have some delightful baguette sandwiches to munch on. Just a warning, this place is only open Thursday through Saturday.

musicSwan’s Market | Live German Music
231 Parsells Ave, Rochester, NY 14609
Swan’s Market has a reputation as the premiere spot for German food in Rochester. Their location, tucked in a low traffic neighborhood of the city, can lead it to sometimes being forgotten. None the less, it is worth the trip for their delicious hand-made sausages and out of this world German potato salad. What many people don’t know is they have live German music on the last Thursday and Friday of each month during lunch time. Grab a beer, get the Wurst Platter and take in the tunes.

Weekday Deal: Free music from 11 am – 2 pm the last Thursday and Friday of each month.

Cinema Theater | Double Feature
957 Clinton Ave S, Rochester, NY 14620a
Touted as Rochester’s ‘oldest neighborhood theater,’ the Cinema gets overlooked due to the multitude of high end movie theaters that lace the area. This place is old school and the prices reflect it. You can watch a double feature for less than the price of one movie elsewhere. Another benefit is the theater plays a wide range of movies – from big budget blockbusters to critically acclaimed independent films. Lastly, while watching a movie, be sure to get some of their delicious popcorn which also costs next to nothing.

La Casa | Wheel Deal
93 Alexander St, Rochester, NY 14620
You may miss this South Wedge Mexican eatery when you drive by because it is a house that blends into the neighborhood. Once inside though, you will know you hit the jackpot for Mexican cuisine. Some of the popular menu items are the empanadas, queso fundido, quesadillas and tacos which are $2 on Tuesdays. The hidden gem here though is their Wheel Deal. Every Wednesday you can spin this fascinating wall-mounted device for deals on drinks and appetizers. They also have some nice outdoor seating – if the weather is cooperating.

Weekday Deals: $5 margaritas on Monday, $2 tacos on Tuesday, Wheel Deal on Wednesday and half-priced añejo tequila on Thursdays.

Phillips European | Chicken French
26 Corporate Woods, Rochester, NY 14623
Widely considered the best place for desserts in Rochester, Phillips is also a destination for delicious chicken french. The secret here is that on the first Monday of the month, the chicken french is buy one, get one free. Just use this coupon when you go in for this deal. Other dishes of interest include shrimp and scallops primavera, filet mignon and artichokes french.

  1. Barry’s Old School Pub and Bakery in Webster at the corner of Empire and 250. They pour a perfect Guinness! It surprised me that it makes a difference, but it actually does!
